I'm not going to leave a comment over at the other site because I'm just not willing to get into a debate over what is and is not hijab.

However I'm going to tell you that you have a point in regards to the statement about "naked women". I as a Muslim who does not cover her hair except when praying or in mosque find the statement to be offensive as well. Furthermore, I find it ironic that a brother would be labeling western women to be "naked women" while at the same time complaining about people viewing Muslim women that wear hijab as "oppressed women".

And while yes, there is definately something wrong about a feminist trying to force her view of liberation upon others, there is still the issue that Somalia is doing exactly the same thing by enforcing Hijab as France is doing by banning it. While the two may be doing the complete opposite both are forcing themselves upon women and oppressing them. The issue in both regards is the same and that issue is that a woman should be free to make her own decision in regards to what she wears (provided she's within decency laws, which most countries do have). The issue in both regards is freedom of religion (even if other faiths are allowed to not wear hijab - not every Muslim woman believes that the headscarf is an obligation).
